Maggie's Cambridge
Brothers Jake, Luke and Toby were due to run the London Marathon 2020 in memory of their father, Steve. When the race was cancelled, Toby and Jake ran it virtually, with Luke offering support from France. Next year, they plan to run it as a three at last.
Toby: To Dad, Maggie’s just meant everything, particularly in the last few months of his life.
Jake: Even though the London Marathon was cancelled, I was really happy we could still do something. Luke, who’s run one before, gave us lots of tips. It would have been a lot harder without them.
Toby: The last six miles were tough, but you just have to remember why you’re doing it. When it felt really difficult, Dad was in the back of my mind, and Maggie’s – that kept us going.
Jake: It’s nice to have your brother there to support you too.
Luke: We have all learned how important it is to talk about your emotions, and this is what Maggie’s is for so many: it's that release they need.
"Maggie's was a sanctuary for all of us, especially Mum and Dad."
Jake: We’ve spent a lot of time apart as brothers, and don’t often get the chance to do things together. That’s why we’re so excited for next year, and doing it as a three.
