The collaboration was brought about by former footballer Lindsay Hamilton, who received support from Maggie's with his wife after her cancer diagnosis.
Maggie’s has formed a new relationship with Heart of Midlothian Football Club (Hearts) for season 2025/26 to support the club’s fans and families living with cancer.
The relationship was set up by former professional footballer and Hearts supporter Lindsay Hamilton, who has held a season ticket at Tynecastle (the home stadium of Hearts) for over 24 years.
Lindsay first found Maggie’s when his wife, Jennifer, was diagnosed with cancer in 2017.
Grateful for the support that himself, Jennifer and the whole family received at the Maggie’s centre based at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, he approached Hearts with the idea to bring the two organisations together in an attempt to benefit supporters of the club.
Lindsay said: “Like many others, I had heard of Maggie’s, but I had no idea about the fantastic support they could give to families living with cancer until I went to the centre myself with my wife, Jennifer.
“I was so pleased with the support my whole family received that I wanted to get the word out about Maggie’s to a wider demographic.
“I approached Hearts with the idea of working together to create awareness among supporters, so that more people would know about Maggie’s and could visit for support.
“They welcomed the idea, and now, I’m delighted to say that Maggie’s branding will be displayed around Tynecastle for the upcoming season.
“Hearts has a large fan base, and if I can spread the word to as many people as possible that Maggie’s can support them then I will be a happy man.
The practical and emotional support that Maggie’s has given me and my family has been fantastic.
Samantha Lea, Fundraising Manager for Maggie’s Edinburgh, added: “We are delighted to have had the introduction from Lindsay to Hearts and to have such fantastic awareness created about Maggie’s amongst their supporters for the season ahead.
“Maggie’s can support anyone with cancer in the family. Whether individuals are at the diagnosis stage, going through treatment, or even trying to process what they are going through months or years down the line, Maggie’s can offer expert emotional and practical support to guide them and help them to live their lives as well as possible with cancer.
“That goes for wives and partners and children too. We can support families to communicate, to better understand what each other is going through, to help cut through the jargon and navigate their way through cancer together.
“Our benefits advisers can also help with financial concerns through cancer treatment.”
Gary Locke, former Hearts captain and now the club’s Principal Ambassador said: “As a keen Hearts fan, Lindsay approached the management team at the club with the brilliant idea that we could get together to raise awareness of Maggie’s to the supporters.
“It’s great for us to be able to put a smile on our fans’ faces and if we can help them through tough times through cancer by raising awareness and signposting them to Maggie’s, then that’s a job well done.”
